To not put on pounds during this post-vacation shock, make a trip to the grocery store and load up on fresh fruits and healthy foods to have readily available to prepare. Avoid the temptation to go out to lunch or dinner, but get back in the kitchen and enjoy your own, or your wife’s, good, simple cooking. Reserve a little time to keep the exercise going — it will help reduce the re-entry stress.

As you sit in front of the computer, click over to your food diary and keep it updated, even if you do not have time to add up the fat grams or calories. Hang in there and welcome back!

Sharon

Armand’s Reply

Dan,

Welcome back! It is too bad your vacation could not have been a little less hectic, but at least it was relaxing to a degree. One potential benefit of vacations is that it offers us the opportunity to step back from the daily grind and gain new perspective on our lives. It is a chance to get refreshed and rethink our priorities. It sounds like you are ready to make exercise a priority again, which is great.

This week, ease back into your workouts. Focus on building up your duration back to 30 minutes. Go at a slower speed and lower elevation, as you said.

Also accentuate your stretching as an effective way to minimize soreness and stiffness that may result after having missed a week or so of exercise. I am glad you were able to get some walking in during your travel, even if it was in short bursts. All physical activity does add up to improving our overall health. In planning ahead for future vacation and business travel, you may want to consider learning exercises that can be performed while in an airplane or car. The stretches that you did before and after your flights are terrific, but next time you can do additional movements in the air that will help keep your muscles loose and increase circulation. Some of these exercises include calf and foot raises, leg extensions, low back stretches and shoulder shrugs.

Good luck this week getting back in the swing of things.

You know from experience that sexual dysfunction may destroy a relationship, but there’re strong and effective premature ejaculation treatment in our time! Rapid ejaculation is the most common type of sexual dysfunction in men younger than 40 years.

Dan was asked to answer a few questions on his return from vacation.

First, did you have a good vacation?

Yes, but too often it seemed like we were always on the go, going from one family member to another, or one event or another. The minor interruption of flying back to work just reiterated this feeling. Not as relaxing as I had hoped, but relaxing none-the-less.

What is your current weight?

As of this morning, it was 228.

Did you manage to make sensible eating choices on vacation? What went well for you? What were the greatest temptations?

My food choices were sensible, and I tried to order low-fat foods, but my portions were too large a few times. I am sure I did not get enough of vitamins nor the proper amount of protein.

How about exercise? Did you do any? If so what?

Long walks and fast walks, especially with all the airplane travel. The 10 stretches helped before and after sitting in an airplane seat for hours on end. Thank goodness for emergency exit row seats with their extended leg room.

How do you feel overall?

Somewhat tired. Not as refreshed as I had hoped.

What are your fitness/diet goals for next week?

I plan to get back into the groove of things, starting with diet and then exercise. I hope to get at least two exercise sessions in this week, with realistic session goals — I cannot expect to just jump right back into 4.1 mph for 30 minutes with an eight percent incline.

Sharon’s Reply

Dear Dan,

You checked in from your vacation one pound lighter than when you left! That is quite an accomplishment. Most people gain weight by letting go of reasonable habits and eating without control. You said you continued to select low-fat foods, although portions were a problem. Restaurants and relatives are both heavy handed with the serving spoon. The activity you had, just keeping on the move, burned off some calories — as contrasted by your typical sedentary day at work . Net result is one pound down.

Now that you are jumping into the work scene again, beware of what I call, rebound eating. Vacation may be over, but your appetite for interesting, fun food is not. As you face the piled up mail, lists of e-mail and project deadlines, food can become a great escape.

A complete individual first-aid kit contents may help out you respond effectively and quickly to common emergencies, injuries. Each one must have an industrial first aid kits handy at home, in the workplace and in the car.

His wife is 3 months pregnant. It’s clear that this is on his mind, because a woman who’s 3 months pregnant (I THINK – I am hardly an expert) can function perfectly normally. He knows his wife can help the kids get dressed and make breakfast. Her being pregnant was on his mind and I think this says a lot about Frank.

How does one become a morning person? I just can’t do it. I like sunrises. I like the peace and quiet of the morning. But it’s just not me

And then we have the walking naked to get the newspaper part. This perplexed me. I’m sure when he wakes up and makes coffee, he has some sort of robe or shirts and shorts on or something. What does he do – take these off before stepping outside for the paper?

Early in the relationship, this exchange took place early one morning:

Wife: Why are you taking off your clothes?
Frank: Oh, I’m going to get the paper.

I just love people and all their little quirks. Back to the show…)

Silas to Brandon: What about you, buddy?

I would have slept ’til noon. And then I would’ve gotten up and had lunch with friends. Saturday nights are my night off, so I probably would’ve gone to a pool party or done something really fun like that and then gone out.

Got sloshed, and gone dancing all night.
Linda: Tough life, B!
Brandon: That’s a Saturday!

As the generic form of trademarked Ultram, Tramadol is an analgesic for pain ranging from moderate to intense. While tramadol is only available through prescription, it isn’t classed as a scheduled drug. For this reason, with a doctor’s prescription, you can buy tramadol online using an internet pharmacy. Then you can just have it mailed to you.

Steps to Take:

1. Select an online pharmacy that has been recommended. You can get a list of recommended online pharmacies from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
2. Look for Tramadol offered on the web-based pharmacy of your choice. You can use the built-in tools on the website to look for Tramadol, typing in either Tramadol or Ultram as a search keyword.
3. Choose the drug dose and quantity as specified on the prescription.
4. Complete the process of registering. With an online pharmacy, you still need to register with the pharmacy and give them basic personal medical information, including allergies as well as current medicines.
5. Make a selection as to the method of furnishing your physician’s prescription order. Choices with online pharmacies vary, but here are some of the things you can expect. The pharmacy may request your prescription from your doctor. They may ask your doctor to fax or call in the prescription. They may accept prescription transfer from another pharmacy. The online pharmacy may require that your doctor mail them a hard copy of the prescription.
6. Supply the necessary information to pay for your order. In case insurance will reimburse you for the order, follow the prompt for furnishing policy details.
7. Pay for your purchase to finalize the order process. You’ll receive an email alert from the web pharmacy informing you about your order details.

Children can explore the world of art via books.

“A Child’s Book of Art: Great Pictures, First Words,” by Lucy Micklethwait. This beautiful book contains more than 100 reprints of paintings organized according to subjects, including colors, the seasons and pets.

Simple guide words help suggest a jumping off point for a discussion with a child, but there is little text to distract from the art. Many artists (Picasso, Renoir, Caravaggio, Kandinsky, Vermeer and Michelangelo) are included and their work covers many styles (portraits, abstracts, impressionists, Egyptian, Aztec and traditional Chinese calligraphy). The reprint quality is exceptional. I especially appreciate Micklethwait’s approach, which is to present pictures evenhandedly, without suggesting any one style or artist is superior to another. Children can explore without being led in any direction and freely select their favorites.

The Museum of Modern Art, New York,” by Florence Cassen Mayers
Mayers has produced several arts-based ABC books, each an enjoyable work for all ages. Toddlers and adults can enjoy sharing this book.

“Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists” (Children’s Press)
This is a great series for slightly older children (and parents who appreciate some humorous illustrations). One example from the series is: “Mary Cassatt: Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists,” by Mike Venezia (Children’s Press, Chicago, $6.95). Basic biographical information captures Cassatt’s life and social experience as a female painter in a male dominated field.

For Oxleas NHS Trust, 2010/11 will be the first year of a three year ?25m project to further modernise the mental health and learning disability facilities at the Memorial and Goldie Leigh Hospitals in South East London. This project allows for the redevelopment, re-provision and relocation of a range of adult and older adult mental health and learning disability services in modern, fit for purpose facilities.

It will provide much needed improvements to the infrastructure at these sites, improving the functionality and effectiveness of the estate. This is an important strategic development that meets the national requirements set out in the “National Service Framework for Mental Health” and “Valuing People: A new strategy for learning disability for the 21st century”.

At York Hospital, a further ?2.9m of this funding will be invested during 2006/07 as part of the continuing upgrade of surgical specialties. The creation of twenty 23-hour stay beds to support the Day Unit will allow an extended range of day case procedures. An improved Critical care Unit will increase capacity, contributing to shorter waits for some surgery. Improvement of Ward block sanitary accommodation will provide better privacy and dignity. All of these improvements will provide a modern environment for patient care, and reduce the risk of hospital acquired infection.

The South West Peninsula Strategic Health Authority together with the Devon and Cornwall PCTs and NHS Trusts will be investing around ?24m of their capital funding in 2006-07 on the Connecting for Health programme. The improvements that patients can expect from this investment are:

– An electronic NHS care record for each patient so that information can be accessed whenever and wherever needed;

– An electronic NHS staff record for each member of staff that will support staff training and education to develop competencies in particular areas;

– Electronic booking of hospital appointments, with a choice of time, date and place that is suitable for the patient;

– Safer and more convenient prescribing through the electronic transfer of prescriptions between GPs and other prescribers and the pharmacy; The introduction of film-less diagnostic services (Picture Archiving and Communications Systems) so that digital images can be made available wherever they are needed; and

The move towards a Single Assessment Process (SAP) across health and social care to enable care to be focused around the needs of individuals and not separated by organisational boundaries.

In Manchester, this capital allocation will fund the completion of a ?7m development of a six-bedded critical care facility at the Christie Hospital, a specialist centre of excellence for cancer services. This development will provide modern, fully equipped critical care facilities that will ensure patients can be proactively monitored and managed across the site. It is an essential response to the increasing demand for critical care services resulting from recent advancements in medical practice.

Knowing the Risks Can Help You Protect Yourself

Today, it seems almost everything is bad for us. In the past, eating hamburgers rare, getting a suntan or sitting in a restaurant’s smoking section was not considered a health hazard. Now studies suggest such seemingly benign activities can put us at increased risk for E. coli poisoning, skin cancer and lung cancer.

Yet, while a lot of substances make their way into the news because of their links to cancer or other diseases, or what reporters deem attention-grabbing, many remain lost in the reams of reports issued by the various government agencies charged with protecting society and the environment.

“The sound bite is obviously designed to catch people’s interest,” said Ralph O’Connor, Ph.D., assistant director for science at the Division of Health Education and Promotion for the ATSDR or Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry in Atlanta. The ATSDR, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, compiles a priority list every year of 275 hazardous substances, primarily focusing on waste sites and possible chemical spills. And it spells out the top 20 hazardous substances.

“What we don’t want to do, as far as the public is concerned, is to say, ‘Here are 500 chemicals, now have a nice life,’” O’Connor said. “A lot of federal agencies compile lists of hazardous substances. A lot of these lists tend to have the same chemicals, even though they are looking at different parts of the environment.”

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences also releases a biennial list of 200 plus substances — the most recent being the 9th Report on Carcinogens 2000 — dividing them into categories of “known human carcinogens” or “reasonably anticipated human carcinogens.”

“The report is intended to provide data to the public and health professionals so people can have the information [they] need to make choices about what they want to expose themselves to,” said John Bucher, Ph.D., deputy director of the Environmental Toxicology Program at the NIEHS in Research Triangle Park, N.C. “It is not to indicate that these substances will absolutely cause cancer in everyone. It’s really to simply allow people to make informed choices.”

“The problem with science, which the public has little tolerance for, is it is always evolving. The public thinks science should know everything, but, by definition, we cannot know everything,” O’Connor said. “Some of the decisions we made in the past, we made by acting on the best knowledge we had then. The more we learn, the more some of our past decisions have to be revised. But we always try to implement a precautionary principle, which is really erring on the side of caution, especially when it comes to public health.”

When you buy medication online, you defend your privacy plus economize whole lot of time on unnecessary visits to your healthcare provider.

“These capital allocations support the ?64billion revenue allocations made to the NHS in 2006/07. These levels of growth will help deliver modern, safe and efficient services across the NHS.

“I know that there are pressures in a small minority of trusts and I have taken decisive action to help turn around the finances of those trusts with the greatest problems. We cannot let this divert from the continued need for investment and modernisation across the NHS as a whole. If the financial situation in some areas dictates that the full programme of investment is not possible in 2006/7, capital funding is not lost: it will be made available in subsequent years for affordable projects which demonstrate value for money for the taxpayer. This allows trusts to plan their finances properly and consider the impact of our recent White Paper on their capital investment plans, such as any longer-term plans to build community hospitals.

“We are making huge changes to the NHS, reforming the system, changing the way we work, and providing more convenient care, closer to patients’ homes. At the same time, it’s important that we continue to provide the funding to modernise NHS buildings and equipment, for the benefit of patients in the long term as well as the short term. Investment in the NHS estate is investment in the future of the NHS.”

– Government departments receive their spending settlements from HM Treasury separated into revenue and capital funding. The two currencies are clearly separate and must be managed accordingly. Departments must live within both their revenue and capital settlements.

– NHS organisations receive clear allocations for both revenue and capital, which are not interchangeable. Governance and financial management in DH and the NHS makes a clear distinction between revenue and capital spending. These arrangements ensure that capital investment is not squeezed out to support revenue expenditure.

– All NHS Trusts, Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) will be receiving capital allocations for 2006-07. NHS Trusts and PCTs will each receive Operational Capital for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing their existing capital stock. SHAs will receive Strategic Capital to distribute at their own discretion within their health economy for larger scale investments. Strategic Health Authorities manage the distribution of strategic capital on to NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts in their patches by prioritising business cases for capital investment (such as new hospitals).

– NHS Trusts, PCTs and SHAs have received a collective increase in capital of 19% over 2005-06, split between operational and strategic capital as follows:

Operational capital to NHS Trusts and PCTs – 25% increase over 2005-06

Strategic Capital to SHAs – 13% increase over 2005-06

– A list of NHS organisations and their capital allocations is available on the DH website at http://www.dh.gov.uk.

– NHS Foundation Trusts do not receive direct capital allocations. Foundation Trust capital investment is financed locally through cash generated by each Foundation Trust from income for activity or through interest bearing loans.

– Examples of locally planned uses for this money are:

In North Derbyshire, ?9m of this capital will be invested in improving the way mental health services for older people are provided. At the centre of the development are two new wards housing 40 single occupancy beds at Walton Hospital in Chesterfield. This development will result in a more user-focused service provided in the most appropriate environment in accordance with best practice guidelines. In line with the white paper “Our Health, Our Care, Our Say” this facility will also provide vital support for carers as well as patients.

In Bristol, ?6m of this capital will fund a new extension at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

This will allow the transfer of acute children’s services from the Woodlands unit at Southmead Hospital, as the first phase of a process of centralisation of paediatric services, which is a vital part of the agreed strategy to modernise and develop sustainable health services for the city of Bristol.

A ?14m single building development at Northampton General Hospital will provide an inpatient renal unit and an interventional cardiology centre. This is an important strategic development in line with local priority that will provide local access to these services. The project also includes the re-provision of nuclear medicine, a primary diagnostic imaging service, within the building.

In this hurry-up economy, ever increasing amounts of current information are being linked to the Internet. You can use a lot of this data to plan your time better, particularly in commuting and travelling.

Over the past 20 years, provincial and municipal governments have invested heavily in technology within major urban centers that permits them to monitor traffic conditions. As a result, they can figure out how to better manage traffic signals, to spot problems on major streets and highways, and to do what they can to improve traffic flow.

In a trend that’s been quietly underway for some time, they’ve now linked this information to their Web sites.

If you are a regular commuter, you might find this information to be of use when you’re heading out on the daily trek. It doesn’t take long to find the up-to-date traffic information on-line.

If you live in Ontario, for example, you can access the Compass system of cameras. These are traffic cameras installed atop light standards along such major highways as the 401, the Queen Elizabeth Way and the 427 by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Each camera takes a picture every few minutes that you can access through the Web site. Just visit the Web site of the Ontario government, and look for the Compass cameras on the main page.

Major cities are also busy placing traffic information on-line, including Toronto, which provides on-line access to its RESCU system. This site allows you not only to examine the views from traffic cameras, but also gain access to a colour-coded map of traffic flow.

This way, you can get a sense as to whether or not your commute to work will be a horrifying experience. Over at TrafficMontreal you’ll find similar information.

The City of Ottawa goes one step further — you can access the live video that is used by the city to monitor traffic conditions.

Sure, you can listen to traffic reports on the radio — and you probably will, as you sit there fuming in traffic.

But accessing these sites might provide you with a better sense of the real conditions on the road.

Of course, it isn’t just traffic information that you can find on-line. Most provincial governments are placing current road condition information on the Web as well.

That too is easy to find — simply spend some time browsing through the transportation section of your provincial government site.

For an example, take a look at the road reports from the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Highways.

What if you are planning a trip by air, or need to pick someone up at the airport?

You should be aware that most of the major airports in Canada have now linked their real-time flight data to the Internet. Visit the airport sites for Toronto, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary or Vancouver and look under “real time flight information” or “flight schedules.” There you will find the same arrival/departure screens seen in the airport.

You can do the same type of thing through major airline Web sites such as that of Air Canada, but airlines only allow you to access details on particular flights.

What if you are travelling by other methods? Check it out on-line. For example, BC Ferries has a site that provides up-to-the-minute information on schedules, as well as actual arrivals and departures and estimated wait times.

There can be a fun element to all of this information, particularly if you happen to be working at home, or somehow have avoided a trip during stormy conditions.

You can log onto any of the sites above to see just how bad things are out there for the poor sods who are stuck in their cars or at the airports.

There exist many significant purposes why a customer need to buy a prepaid phone cards but the most important reason is that they saves money.
